Endless
Waltz
New Mobile
Report Gundam Wing OVA
"You
could say history is an endless waltz. The three measures of war,
peace, and revolution continue in an endless cycle."
--Mariemeia Khushrenada
Plot
After Colony 195, Christmas
Eve: the clash between the World Nation forces and White Fang has
come to a halt. World Nation forces commander Treize Khushrenada
was slain and White Fang commander Milliardo Peacecraft has
vanished. Realizing th e atrocities of war, the colonies and
Earth chose a path of coexistence. Together, they created the
United Earth Nation. Mobile suits and arms were demolished and
dismantled in the Earth districts.
After Colony 196:
tranquility has sustained for one year. The Gundam pilots,
unnecessary during peacetime, prepares to part with their
Gundams. Lady Une has instituted the Preventers Agency,
specializing in intelligence gatherings. Sally Po (Preventer
"Water") locates a piece of Neo-Titanium alloy debris.
With t he rarity of Mobile Suits, she reports to Lucrezia Noin.
On colony, X-18999, Relena Darlian, Vice-Foreign Minister, is
abducted at a diplomatic relations meeting. Shortly after,
Mariemeia Khushrenada (daughter of Treize and successor of Barton
Foundation) ; Relena's captor, of colony X-18999 declares
independence
and war upon the United Earth Nation. United Earth Leaders,
regarding her young age of 7, remains blissfully ignorant.
Mariemeia and her grandfather Dekim Barton, housing an abundant
supply of Mobi l e Suits (including neo-titanium Serpent units),
scheme to place Mariemeia in the United Earth Nation's highest
position. With a scarcity of arms, the United Earth Nation will
be unable to respond effectively. The serenity of the past year
may be disturbed once again.
Characters
One year has passed
in our favorite G-boys' universe. Now at a ripe age of 16,
they've grown physically and emotionally.
Wufei, emotionally scarred over the death of Treize, feels void during the time of peace. Feeling an absence of purpose, he joins Mariemeia's faction to atone his desire for fighting. Trowa, typically reclusive, has remained in the traveling circus with Catherine. During the reminiscences of Operation Meteor, a portion of his past opens, as well as the true nature of Operation Meteor. Duo has entered the salvage business with Hildy, unchanged and feeling admiration towards Heero. Quatre remains with the Maganac forces. Heero's emotions are gradually revealed to us. His attitude toward killing is not as lighthearted as we were led to believe.
Antagonists in this short story are Dekim Barton and Mariemeia Kushrenada. Dekim was one of the original instigators of Operation Meteor. His version was vastly disparate to what was eventually carried out. He seeks global power using Mariemeia and Relena. Mariemeia, while a sincerely intelligent girl of 7 is misled by and manipulated to achieve his ends.
Animation and
Sound
The Gundams are displayed in
much more articulate detail. The overall tone of the story is
unmistakably darker, as well as the portrayal of the Gundams.
Subjectively, they look much more cooler. Wing Zero now has
feathered wings, Deathscythe Hell, longer and broader wing s as
well. It depicts Death rather well. The Gundams lose their image
as action figures and the color brilliance, which is a plus. The
Serpent suits weren't entirely innovative; a slightly
degraded
version of the Heavyarms.
The Japanese voice acting is far superior to the CN versions. Dialogue was not adjusted to fit mouth movements, conveying the original message of the writers. The music, which features some J-Pop, was mostly instrumental. Loudness, pitch, and various other variables denote events and battles. The various tunes certainly weren't painful to the ear.
Other Aspects
Wing was one of the more popular Gundam franchises. Yet the
conclusion of Endless Waltz certainly seems to vanquish
possibilities of additions. I respect that decision however. It's
nice to know Yasunao Aoki considers story to have much more
importance than the monetary factor.
Overall
Gundam fans will eat
this one up, once AnimeVillage and CN airs it. Those who desire
continuation will be sorely disappo inted. I recommend it; it was
a fine continuation.
